Many of us know that eating nutritious foods and exercising regularly are important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, a healthy lifestyle also includes tending to our emotional and mental health. This post provides several tips to help you work on your wellbeing.
Incorporating mindfulness and self-care into our daily routines is vital to support our wellbeing, so below is a list of five habits that you can adopt for an overall healthier lifestyle:
1. Honor your needs. When was the last time you tuned into the kind of support you need at this moment? Are you hungry, looking for a connection, or in need of rest? Take a moment to check in and recognize what your body and mind are looking for.
2. Remind yourself of what makes you happy. When we get busy, anxious or stressed from all the things going on in our lives, it can be easy to forget the good things in life. Building a habit of listing out the things you are grateful for, can bring joy to your day.
3. Incorporate self-care. When balancing your tasks for the day, self-care activities may not be on top of the to-do list. However, indulging in self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. You can incorporate a walk, music, and other mental breaks each day so that you can relieve stress and stay refreshed.
4. Be intentional with your time. We only have 24 hours in a day, which means it is important to do the things you find valuable or important. Saying ‘no’ to less important opportunities and activities will allow you to take control over your time and your life.
5. Ask for help when you need it. When life becomes hard, we may want to isolate ourselves. However, it is especially important to know that you don’t need to be alone through a struggle, and you don’t need to wait until there’s a crisis to get help. Turning to trusted friends, family, or health practitioners when you are worried, unhappy, or struggling with other feelings, can help you feel better and maintain your wellbeing.
