If my story resonates, you’re not alone. I was born HIV positive in 1989, I was left in the hospital after a few months I was taken to a residential boarding center. My chances of living were slim to none. I was born with a developmental delay, lacking socialization skills. I was also born with jaundice and cocaine toxicity. I was adopted by a loving Puerto Rican family, when I was 5 years old I moved to Puerto Rico and lived there for 5 years. While living there I was bullied at school. Being born HIV positive is mainly a issue when it comes to relationships because the stigma and the lack of education, the challenge is people will hear your story but probably will not believe it because its rare to hear about babies being born HIV positive. My life has been a challenge, but I have prevailed despite the odds of me living. I have my associates and bachelors degree even though it took me 4 years to get my associates and it took me 3 years to get my bachelors. Another way I have prevailed is by not letting HIV dictate my life. Find similar stories from me and others living positively at Positive People.
