October is the Best Time to Boost

According to the data, the best time to get protection against COVID-19 and the flu is now through the end of the month. October provides an ideal window to improve your immunity with a COVID-19 booster for maximum protection.

White House COVID coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha said the best time to get a newly updated COVID-19 booster is “no later than the end of October for maximum protection.” This ensures you get protection throughout the winter.

According to the CDC, vaccines are still the best way to protect yourself from COVID-19. People who were unvaccinated last year were 12 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 compared to people who were fully vaccinated.

This month is also the best time to get your flu shot for protection through the flu season that lasts until spring. The flu shots are recommended for anyone who is eligible, and are especially encouraged for people who are over age 65 as they account for greater numbers of flu deaths and hospitalizations. To find a vaccine provider near you, visit vaccines.gov or your state or local public health department website.
